Ukraine together with The Hague Academy of International Law and a group of member states organized the side event at the UN headquarters to discuss the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes
On 1st November in the framework of the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly the side event on “The Topicality of the Fundamental Principles concerning the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes, as Set Out in the Manilla Declaration of 1982” was organized by The Hague Academy of International Law together with the Permanent Missions of Andorra, Brazil, Chile, France, Gabon, Germany and Ukraine to the United Nations.
The event was moderated by Professor Jean-Marc Thouvenin, Secretary-General of The Hague Academy of International Law, who gave the flour to speak on the topic to H.E. Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, President of the International Court of Justice, and H.E. Judge Antônio Augusto Cançado Trindade, Judge at the International Court of Justice.
The participants discussed, inter alia, issues of judicial dispute settlement of international disputes, role of the Manila Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes and contribution of international courts to international justice.
In his welcoming remarks, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko reconfirmed commitments of Ukraine to resolve all of its international disputes peacefully and in accordance with the international law with a special emphasis on a treaty based means and mechanisms.
