Вступне слово Постійного представника України при ООН В.Ю.Єльченка на неформальному засіданні РБ ООН щодо прав людини в Криму
Opening remarks by Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Mr. Volodymyr Yelchenko at the UN Security Council Open Arria-formula meeting: Impunity for Human Rights Violations in Crimea Must Stop
(18 March 2016, UN Conference Building)
Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
I am delighted to welcome all of you here at the UN at the Open Arria – formula meeting entitled “Impunity for Human Rights Violations in Crimea Must Stop”.
After the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and its ongoing aggression in the Donbas, tens of thousands of Ukrainians suffered from grave abuses of their rights. Reports of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe as well as of human rights organizations confirmed the massive outburst of crimes against our citizens in particular in Crimea, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, unlawful and arbitrary detention, torture and ill-treatment.
We call for international community cooperation to stop mounting systemic violations of human rights and prevent further deterioration of the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
I am confident that today’s meeting will bring additional impetus to the existing support of Ukraine and delighted to give the floor for the remarks to H.E. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
Thank youfor your attention.
