United Nations IATF on Chernobyl
On April 11, Ambassador, PR of Ukraine Volodymyr Yelchenko addressed the United Nations IATF on Chernobyl headed by UN USG, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark
Understanding the long-term nature of the implications of the Chernobyl accident, Ukraine finds it essential to discuss the post-2016 international cooperation on Chernobyl in order to continue collaboration with the United Nations and other international organizations regarding the study and minimization of health, environmental and socio-economic consequences of the disaster, as well as facilitating the restoration and development of affected areas.
The IATF meetings became unique example of the international expert proficiency on such complex item. Ukraine welcomes the readiness of a number of UN agencies, including UNDP, to continue post-2016 cooperation based on the priorities identified by the affected countries at the international and national levels.
Ukraine believes that the way forward of the international Chernobyl agenda after 2016 should include cooperation files on Knowledge Management and Policy Advice, as well as on Risk Management and Radiation Mitigation and on Socio — Economic Development.
