Виступ Заступниці Постійного Представника України Христини Гайовишин на засіданні Генеральної Асамблеї ООН

Statement of Ukraine
for the Informal meeting of the plenary to hear a briefing by the President of the General Assembly
on priorities for the resumed part of the seventy-eighth session
(16 January 2024)

Thank you, Mr. President, for your very important presentation.

Mr President, Ukraine believes that, in line with the theme of the 78-th session of the General Assembly, rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity, accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Goals for all must be our common guidance.

In this regard, the multilateral system’s ability to deliver directly depends on our common action to make the United Nations effective for all. Effective in all domains, including the core one related to the maintenance of international peace and security in line with the UN Charter.

Ensuring international peace and security is impossible without respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter which are now being brutally violated. As this February we are approaching the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and tenth anniversary of its aggression against my country, the urgency of efforts to stop the aggressor and to ensure comprehensive, just and lasting peace on the basis of the UN Charter is as relevant as ever. This is a critical prerequisite for ensuring global security and implementing SDGs.

Mr President, Ukraine looks forward to meaningfully contributing to all conferences, high-level events and processes outlined in your presentation. We are fully committed to working towards overcoming all global challenges together.

However, we must admit that global challenges won’t be overcome, and SDGs won’t be achieved without upholding the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, without ending wars of aggression in line with the UN Charter and without holding the perpetrators accountable.

I thank you.
